Core Values

We believe that the child should lie at the heart of our curriculum, and that everything we do should contribute to the full and rounded development of every child, as well as to the acquisition of new skills, knowledge, and understanding. Initially all staff were involved in choosing a set of core values - attributes and behaviours that we want to help everybody at Coston to develop during their time at the school. We believe that these behaviours will help us all to become better lifelong learners, and make Coston a happy and supportive environment for learning. Our core values are:

• Respect

Children and adults at Coston show respect for one another, for themselves and for their environment. We treat others in the way we would like to be treated. We listen, and we value each other's ideas.

• Resilience

Children and adults at Coston persevere in the face of challenges and stay calm in stressful situations. We take risks and understand the value of making mistakes. We know how to help ourselves when we find something hard. We know that success comes through hardwork and never giving up.

• Empathy

Children and adults at Coston are able to put themselves in other people's shoes and show concern and care for others, both within and outside of the school. We understand that other people may feel differently from themselves. We can put others before ourselves and look after one another.

• Teamwork

Children, staff, parents and local community work together as a team and care for each other and help each other to be the best that we can be

• Reflective

Children and adults at Coston are able to reflect and recognise their own strengths and areas of development. Children at Coston are able to think carefully about their learning and actions and know how to make things better.

• Inclusive Children and adults at Coston are part of an inclusive and safe learning community and are provided the tools to achieve standards of excellence in all that we think, say and do.
