Writing is given strong emphasis so that not only do the children have opportunities to develop their skills in English lessons, but also to apply these skills in a range of cross curricular activities throughout the week. Children are given regular opportunities for independent sustained writing throughout a unit of work where they will be given chances to apply the key skills learned.

Targets to further each individual child’s reading and writing are set at the start of the academic year, and updated as appropriate, as they make progress in line with the expectations for their year group.
